I had the honor and privilege of assisting and filming a photography workshop for Aaron R. Lindemann last June. He is hosting another one this November and it is already booked up! So awesome to hear. I want to tell you why people are looking to work and learn from Aaron so much.
Aaron is highly knowledgable when it comes to lighting and most importantly, interacting with a subject. He knows how to control his environment and create the image that he wants. Learning to interact with a subject can be difficult, but he will demonstrate and explain to you how you should approach someone to achieve your goals in every shoot.
Aaron is honest, humble and encourages you to experiment. I love that about him.
One of the coolest exercises I saw during his workshop was forcing his students to use impractical light sources and cheap cameras or cell phones to get great images. The camera does not create the image, it only captures it. You create the image for the camera to see. Honestly, I found some of the best and inspiring images of the day to be from those sessions.
At the end of the day he then walks you through is workflow and editing process and shares his secrets. You can easily edit your photos along with him and see huge differences in your new work vs old. Aaron’s skills in Lightroom and Photoshop are awesome and it’s great to see how he approaches his files and chooses his shots to edit.
It was so incredible to see the images students had created and hear how they loved what they were learning throughout the day. There was always a good vibe in the room and people were so excited with the work they were producing through out the day. Watching them improve was just phenomenal.

Learning lighting from Aaron was one of the best things I’ve ever done for my photography. With my history of photographing fast paced events and always working with what I have and thinking on the fly, what I really needed (and didn’t even realize it) was someone to show me how to slow down and pay attention to the little details that can make a huge impact on my images. I loved that Aaron showed me how to work with minimal gear and didn’t expect me to show up with expensive lights and triggers to make beautiful imagery. The high end stuff is really nice, but you don’t need it to take your photography to the next level.
