No matter where you go, don’t forget to remember.
That statement above may seem a bit over the top or weird, but it’s fitting for this. “Don’t forget to remember.” Is something we call can practice. All the places we go in life, both physically and mentally are important to us. In order to remember all of those places we have been to, we need something to remind us or trigger those memories.
I know it’s cliche and you’ve probably hear this a million times, but photographs are extremely important for documenting our lives. We are all aware of this, but sometimes we can forget what photos we should be taking. Sure we can get those family photos and group shots etc, but I think some of the most reflective images we take are the ones that have hidden meanings to them.
The small stuff. The little things. They matter.
The photograph above was one of those “little things”. Andrew and I were on our way to a wedding reception in Escanaba, MI and we made plans to catch up with my sister, Megan, for a while. On the way through town we saw this obnoxious sign that apparently told us where the internet could be found. Immediately we began a conversation about this amazing and wonderful sign that seemed to declare the newest technology in town. It was a hilarious moment. It was a moment I didn’t want to ever forget, so I told him to turn around so we could snap a photo to emphasize the comedic value the sign had for us.
It’s funny how significant and amazing the internet was to us at one point in time. Now it is everywhere and even free. The norm has changed. We completely forgot how things used to be.
Moments like that. Those “little things” are important to me. They should be important to you too.
For me, I have photographs, all which I plan to print some day and share. Others have little boxes with little items that hold the same amount of value.
These “things” remind us how fast our lives move and how easy it is to forget some of the greatest moments in our life.
Even the little ones.
Those funny moments we have. Those weird things we see, they bring back entire parts of our life from the dead. They can be revived through photographs. That’s pretty darn awesome.
