I had the opportunity to film the wedding of some great friends of mine last weekend. Originally I wasn’t going to film it, but then I thought to myself, why wouldn’t I? I also found out that a great new friend I have been mentoring recently is related to the bride. He was going to be at the wedding as well! So the night before, I called him up and asked if he would want to film the wedding with me. He seemed a little intimidated, but that was only because he had never done it before. I told him that there is no better way to learn than by diving in and doing it.
Starting something new or having an unfamiliar experience can be a little scary or intimidating, but it is when we are in that zone of insecurity and fear of messing up that we truly test ourselves and surpass our own expectations. Sharing that first experience with some one with experience and knowledge to share is even better. One thing that I have learned over the past year is that by teaching what I know to others, I have even learned new things myself. It is through new eyes on a subject that different aspects are either made known or new ideas are conceived.
It is important that no matter what trade, skill, or profession we are in that we try to learn new things or keep moving forward to not only make ourselves better at what we do, but to be better help to others that need us.
No matter what happens, just keep moving.
