Both this photograph and the photograph from my last post are from a wedding that I filmed last weekend. I was able to capture a few different moments from the wedding in a third person point of view. I really think that point of view has defined my style both as a videographer and photographer. I love sharing the wedding videos with the newly weds because it gives them a whole other perspective on that day in their life. They see things they never saw and rejoice in that.
I will be photographing my first wedding tomorrow and that is something I formally have never done. I have always been either filming or an informal photographer fortunate enough to capture some pretty cool moments. Wedding content is kind of a unique idea. It is capturing an event that will never be repeated, almost like capturing the news. It’s interesting to put some perspective on how fast it really happens and how many different angles and ideas you can capture with a camera. No matter how much we may prepare for a wedding, we will always be surprised by a random occurrence, a short patch of bad weather, an amazing opportunity of composition and so much more.
I believe going into capturing something like a wedding is like being a hunter. Always be on your toes ready to shoot. Be adaptable to changes and sudden movements. The key is to go in with confidence and really have fun with it. This is not only true in photographing or filming a wedding, but with all first time experiences. If you trust your judgement and and rely on your instincts, you will succeed. We are capable of great things and when those great things happen it is the most rewarding thing that can happen.
None of us are ever truly ready to be or do anything, we just have to do it. Whether it be photographing a wedding, getting married to the love of our life, becoming a mother or father, or going to college, we all have to make the choice to be confident, be fearless, and succeed.
