I can recall the exact moment when I captured this photograph above. It was, without a doubt in my mind, the best autumn day of my life. My friend Gary and I decided to make a long day trip about 2-3 hours north of where we live. We woke up at 4AM to catch the sunrise on the way to our first location, which was Dave’s Falls, in Northeast Wisconsin.
We had both been there many times before, but never at sunrise. Especially on such a beautiful autumn day. The light was perfect, the colors were vibrant, there was no wind, the air was refreshingly cool, and there was a sense of appreciation for every little detail within us. As we began to perceive shots in our minds the excitement only grew as the morning progressed.
I remember moments of yelling back and forth to Gary as we previewed our photographs on the back of our cameras. It was the thrill of seeing something with our eyes and then it being revealed to us in a whole other way. Some shots were more easily captured than others, but when we worked on the same composition for an extended period of time, the final capture was beyond rewarding to us.
It’s the days we have that are full of surprises that are provoked by our love of what we do that really make our lives worth while. It’s not just about finding the excitement in our life outside of work, but even at work and within our careers. It is important to celebrate all of the things that we get done and look forward to starting new projects. Not only that, but remembering to share that excitement with all the people we are surrounded with and celebrate things they are doing as well.
I would also like to share Gary’s photograph of the day that he edited for his 365 project. He really captured the environment well with the beautiful morning light. Click on the photograph to see more from his Flikr account!
