When I woke up on the day I took the photograph above, I had no idea that it was even a possibility. We drove an hour to go visit some friends and when we pulled up to Lake Michigan, there was this amazing fog rolling across the water. I knew it wouldn’t last long so Andrew and I jumped out of the car and walked out on an old pier that was falling apart. As Andrew was looking out I came up with the idea to compose it the way I did above and it came out perfect. I love getting photographs that are not really a mission for the day, they just kind of happen.
I found that as I grow and become a more skilled photographer, I visually see things through inspiration of all that is around me. Your camera will eventually become a part of you and that is a beautiful thing. There is a seamless connection between your vision, your imagination, and your camera.
I encourage you to always be ready to shoot even when you don’t feel it is necessary. You never know what you will come up with.
The photograph above was taken with a 20mm Canon FD F2.8 on a Canon T2i.
