I had an amazing time last weekend visiting with a good friend and his family. I had my DSLR with me, but at times I just had to relax and rely on my iphone and Instagram to do the work when I was inspired in the moment. To my surprise I was able to capture some pretty amazing photographs that made me reflect upon the amount of equipment or what kind of equipment I have. It’s not about the camera or the lens, its about what you do with it. It is really up to us to remember that quality doesn’t make something beautiful, but the story told by the image.
Instagram and smartphones have inspired a new generation of photography and it is nice to see others embrace it when I come across amazing images on them. Sure, instagram may seem stupid, too easy, or filter based, but it really does level the playing field and invites all of us to become photographers in our own light. It’s not about understanding the science and rules of photography, its about capturing your own life in the way you want it to be told. Why fight it when you can embrace it?
I encourage you to open your eyes, pick up your phone and show us the world we have never seen before.
