Yesterday I got to do what I really love to do most, make videos with my friends. I had the honor of interviewing my friend Gary for an upcoming Photoguides video that will be posted in the near future. I love going out with all of my equipment and shooting with a purpose that is not driven by making an income. I do not make any income from writing for Photoguides. I write because I love creating content, talking about gear, and sharing the great things that other people make.
One thing that I am a firm believer in is not bounding yourself to what you originally intended to do or make. When I made the image above I originally intended for it to be just a normal edit of a photograph, no text or graphics involved in it, but as I spent some time with it, editing it with different adjustments, trying different filters, I decided I wanted to enhance it with graphics and text and make it something more than a photograph.
I decided to take hold of what I was feeling through my imagination in that moment and moving forward with it. I did not restrict myself to just making it a photograph. It is now a poster that can hopefully inspire and intrigue someone. I love coming across work that turns my head, especially if it is a piece of work that is outside of that artist’s particular style or usual work. They just decided go with their gut and try something new or just do things a little differently.
I encourage you to experiment with anything you may be working on and just go with your gut. Most of the time you will surprise yourself. There is beauty in spontaneity. So the next time you feel an idea creep in out of no where, go with it and give it a try. Create what you feel in that moment.
