I run across a lot of people every year that want to blog, but are easily overwhelmed with the idea of actually doing it. Quite honestly, that is probably the hardest part of it.
The act of starting a blog is the hardest part because you’ve never done it before.
When I started blogging in 2010, I had the hardest time just writing my first post. I wanted it to be mega awesome and insightful. I had my sights set very high for myself. I also thought I would gain some sort of great following quickly and easily. That was such an impossible feat for me. For anyone really. I just wanted to do it right, but that just held me back from starting.
You have to be realistic when you start a blog. You have to keep it simple.
- Write about what you know. Things you enjoy.
- Don’t try to please everyone.
- Try to help others. Share your stories that have wisdom about them. (failures are great actually)
- Make it short and sweet. – Long posts aren’t always enjoyable unless the story or information is compelling and useful. Keep it simple and just make sure you start publishing.
Once you hit publish it’s so much easier.
Trust me. I know because that’s how I did it. Just start and keep going.
How do you think I wrote this post? I kept it simple. I kept on going.

Advice I always tell people who talk about how they want to blog… Thx for the reminder even for those who’ve been blogging for a while ;)
