There are a ton of books, blogs and articles out there that tell you how to become a better writer… Ironically, this is now included. There is something that many of them seem to forget to tell you. In the most beautiful way, it’s the most difficult idea to accept sometimes. It’s not really advice… It’s more like a fact that you, as a writer need to know.
Your path to becoming a better writer is never going to be the same as someone else’s. You will find similarities, but when it comes down to it, it’s a very personal journey. You will discover what habits work best for you. That process can take months or years to figure out. Maybe you write better in the morning or in the middle of the night.
It doesn’t really matter how, when or what you write. What matters is that you write.
The simple act of writing is what makes you a better writer. The more you take from your head to the front of your eyes, the better chance those ideas have to live and survive. Becoming a better writer is not about technique or “hacking the process.” It’s about discovering opportunity in the words you’ve written. If the words are never written, the discovery doesn’t happen.
The truth behind becoming a better writer is in the title “writer” itself.
Write.
