This EP by the band Borders was just released last weekend and it really made me reflect on almost the last decade of my life. I have been friends with the band members of Borders since 2007. Not only have I been friends with them, but most of the members of the group have stayed friends themselves. It seems that writing music can either be the bond that holds people together or the reason they go separate ways. Arguments and disagreements through life changes and creative nourishment tend to take over. Despite one of them getting married, they still manage to stick together and write music.
Their first EP under this name is a testament to that brotherhood they have created through music. They spent much of their free time in 2013 self producing it with the little resources they had. They should be damn proud of it. I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out. It makes me proud to be their friend.
I’ve seen them through many different stages in the last 7 years and they have been writing music together for about a decade. They have put so much time and effort into their craft as musicians. It’s not their career, but they pursue it in many similar aspects which I find most admirable. Commitment, patience and love are something a lot of people tend to lose.
These guys haven’t lost the love. They have been damn patient. They are committed to sticking together. Sticking together is not an easy task. That demands respect, flexibility and forgiveness to each other.
I am glad to say that I am proud to still be their friend. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
