You and I have both been in there. You feel like you are in a rut. You’re stuck. You can’t seem to find inspiration, motivation or just anything to get you through “the dip” as Seth Godin calls it. Your progress is just lacking. As much as you should try to stick to it, there is a way to help revitalize your progress. More importantly, yourself.
Plan B.
So plan A isn’t working? Time for plan B. It doesn’t mean that your destination will change, it’s just a different route. A more scenic one hopefully. So what’s plan B? It’s quite simple.
Take a break.
Seriously. Take a day off. Heck take a few days off. Go on a road trip. Spend time with family. Discover something new in your area or far away. Meet up with an old friend. All that stereotypical stuff… It actually works.
The problem is that you become so focused on your progress that you lose focus on yourself. Your mental and physical health takes a toll. You need some “you time.” It’s not selfish, it’s practical. It’s logical. You deserve it.
In order to sustain our selflessness whether that’s for projects or even helping others, we need to be selfish from time to time. You must invest in yourself in order to invest in others.
“A glass can only spill what it contains.” – Yup. I bet you’ve heard that before. Or something similar. You can only pour out what you contain. When you run dry, you have nothing to give and everyone suffers. Even yourself.
So take a break. Do it already. Refill your glass with an amazing new experience.
