I have some pretty outstanding people in my life. Their accomplishments may not be grand and infamous, but who knows, none of us have reached 30 yet. Then again, I see their achievements on personal development levels to be extremely impeccable.
As we hiked up by Dave’s Falls I began to really think about how far my friends have come. From passion to persistence these three friends of mine have done and will do crazy things. I think what is most expressed by these three is the pure excitement they have for others. They love to encourage you to do what you love and genuinely are supportive of others. It’s pretty darn cool.
On the left we have Brendan, IT work by day, beer brewer by night. Every time I see him his passion for brewing beer has not been smothered but fueled even more by his big heart. He wants to make a difference with his brews, hoping to some day have his own brewery. His biggest reason for doing it is not out of greed, but out of the love of community. He wants to create a reason for people to gather, to be merry and do good in the community. Great tasting beer is to be appreciated, celebrated and gives us all common ground. I am most excited for his journey as it continues.
In the center we have Emma, crazy red head and yoga instructor. She is probably one of the most exciting friends I have from high school. Her personality resonates so loud and lifts me up every time I see her. She loves health and fitness and has a heart for travel. She has come a long way since we parted ways after high school. It has been amazing to see her grow into a person that is willing to help others and keeps herself in top condition to do so. I can’t wait to see what life brings her. (She even snapped a photo of me with her GoPro. You can find it at the bottom of this post)
On the right we have Andrew, my roommate for the last three years, close friend and autism therapist. We have just as much in common as the things we disagree with. That’s what happens when you live with a friend for three years though. Haha. Anyways, Andrew is extremely talented on so many levels. He is extremely intelligent. He knows how to analyze situations objectively to get the point across and solve a problem. He is an outstanding musician. I love his bass lines and guitar riffs. His love for piano is sporadic, but it’s there. He doesn’t spread himself thin, like I do. He concentrates on his few close friends and really invests in them. The same is true when we do projects together. He focuses and completes the objective. With that kind of approach to life, I know that when the opportunity strikes, he will do it well and I am thrilled to see it happen.
There is something to be said about those you stay in touch with that don’t live near you. They reflect onto you and you reflect onto them. You keep tabs on each other. You give fresh eyes on situations and struggles they have. You aren’t always there for them, but when you are, it makes all the difference.
What’s important is that you support them when they need it, celebrate when they win, and tell them the truth when they need it most.
