A personal video project way past due.
I became great friends with Gary Meulemans in 2012 and quite honestly his friendship was a big influence on me and my work. His appreciation for landscapes and personal commitments to photo projects is truly inspiring. 2013 has been a year of trying to defeat the things that were on my back burner and this is one of those videos. I originally was creating this video for a photography website I was writing for, which is now on hiatus due to shifts in focus by the creator, Ashley Davies. He is now focusing on his digital publishing company, Tablo.
After learning about Gary’s amazing photograph and the story of how it went viral, I knew I had to share it. I was lucky enough to have my friend, Andrew, man the camera so we could conduct an interview with Gary and even shoot some fantastic sunsets photos as well.

Gary taught me a lot about how focused we can get on things we think we don’t have and how to embrace the things we do have, especially the landscapes of where we live. Perception, patience and appreciation are key in discovering true elegance in your current environment. Despite how boring or stale things may be after we see the same things every day, it’s up to us to truly find rediscover the beauty around us. Change the light, wait a little longer and make sure you do it with friends or family.
Finding appreciation in something with other people is important. Sharing experiences can help you appreciate it so much more.
We went back to the exact location that Gary captured the amazing photograph shown in this video. He wasn’t alone when he captured it. Not only that, he had dear friends that captured photographs that were just as beautiful as his. A moment in time that none of them will ever forget.
I am honored to be able to share this story with you, even though it is way past due. Sometimes we feel like it’s too late or we passed up the “chance” to share something, but I’ve realized that sometimes it’s the memories that matter, not the original mission. This is one of those cases.
