I took this specific photograph in April of 2013 and I never shared it until now. I am not totally sure why, but I just never did. Perhaps I didn’t want winter to be hanging around anymore. Here we are again in April of 2014 and the ice is still there after a long and even colder winter than the last. this year there is so much ice that the location I took this exact photo from is not even safely accessible.
The ice shoves have pushed themselves over the pier and even the road to access the pier. There are even homes that have had extreme damage done to their yards, including iron and stone fences. The trees are engulfed in sheets of ice that just keep on pushing forward into the land. As much as we can try to prepare for these great changes between seasons, sometimes we can never anticipate what the future actually brings.
This summer will be a great change for me and all the folks in the midwest. We have had enough of this winter. Spring seems to be struggles to make progress, but I know it will make its way to us.
