When we are in a good season, we can take it for granted. When we are in dark times, we can actually do the same thing.
As much as I love the great times in my life, I firmly believe that I don’t take them in for what they really are. We don’t appreciate the good times when we are in them. I’m not saying we don’t thoroughly enjoy them, but how often do we stop and be thankful in the middle of all the great moments we have. How often do we slow down in the middle of a busy day and just be thankful and discuss how awesome it is with others.
We don’t even appreciate the hard times when we are in them. I believe the hard times teach us the most. Of course we hate being in the hard parts of our life, but sometimes we should just laugh and be like, “haha…..this is awesome….” It honestly is because it’s just another challenge, another story to tell and teach.
When we are with the people that influence us we can take that for granted too. It’s amazing how often we miss the opportunity to embrace the people in our life.
How often do we vocally tell people,
“Thank you for all that you do, it’s amazing.”
I don’t think it happens enough. We don’t tell them the details of why either. Sure we say it in emails and text messages, but there is something sacred about human interaction. What I find amusing about that simple act is how nervous it can make us feel. I recently told that thought and even more to a great new friend this past week. I felt like I wasn’t saying enough to make them feel the way I wanted them too. In the end, he was most grateful and extremely flattered.
These simple gestures hold more power than we realize. When someone tells you to your face that what you do has meaning and is of high regard, it changes you. It is better than any old trophy on the wall. It means that right now.
In this moment.
You matter.
When you feel like you matter and that you make a difference, you do great things. It truly motivates all of us.
I encourage you to tell someone in your life how awesome they really are and thank them for what they do for you and others too. That little action has major influence.
