Broken promises. That’s pretty much what this feels like right now. After publishing my first book, I had the ambition to record the audio version of it. I was pretty pumped last spring to do it. As summer progressed and life has shifted, I just don’t feel compelled to do it any more.
Why is this?
Where did that passion for sharing the good news of blogging go? As much as I wanted to offer new channels to share my story and the stories of the many amazing people within my book, I just lost focus and the drive for offering more ways to get the same product.
I love blogging. Don’t get me wrong. I still do it a lot. I still love to talk about it. I still tell everyone else to do it. The problem I found was blogging is a personal choice. Something I can’t really “force” people to do. If folks are pumped to enhance their life a little, make some new friends and maybe even boost their career, then this book is for them.
My passion right now is focused on direct human interaction with others. If someone wants to get into blogging, my mind and thoughts are available to them. That is true for any topic I have experience in. I would much rather spend my time focusing on people in my immediate location that trying to save the world. I can’t solve everyone’s problems. No one person should. It’s a job for many. Not one soul.
The Elements of Blogging is not for everyone. I feel like I can finally say that out loud. It’s for people that are serious about adding writing, editing and publishing to their daily or weekly routine. It takes a lot of passion, determination and commitment to “successfully” blog. What do I mean by “successfully?” If you are that curious about blogging and how it can impact your life, read it for yourself.
If someone runs across my book and cares enough to read it, awesome. I hope they become blogging astronauts! If not, no big. The book isn’t for everyone. It’s for people that want to take writing and digital publishing seriously. That’s the book’s demographic.
I sort of feel like a jackass for saying that, but I feel it’s true.
If you want to get insights into many personal experiences with blogging and how it has changed lives you should just read the book. I don’t feel like I should offer the book up to anyone on a special platter in audio format. I know… I know… it’s a great way to reach more people and broaden my audience, but at this point in my life I have enough going on that is much more important than my book.
I don’t care if only 5 more people read my book this year. Heck, I’d be content if no one else read my book for the rest of my life. I’ve already had over 600 people download my book through multiple channels of distribution online. I know for a fact that at least a handful have read the book and have personally emailed me thanking me for writing it. That’s pretty awesome and more than I expected to get from the book.
I’m satisfied with the fact that I wrote a book. I mean seriously, that’s something to be proud of. Am I right?
Call me crazy. Call me lazy. That’s what I’m kind of calling myself right now. I sadly am going to kill the Elements of Blogging Audio Book project. Some things just need to be laid to rest.
I hope we can still be friends. This post was a bit difficult for me to share, but necessary.
