With work and travel getting the best of my time usually spent writing, I had to put the 10 Days to a Better Blog writing course on hold. Until tonight! It was actually bugging me because writing is something that is part of my daily routine. When you remove a ritual you tend to get in a funk, but luckily I had enough distraction to prevent that.
For day six of the course, you are asked to analyze your about page. This evening when I got back to my hotel room I finally had enough energy to analyze my most recent about page. I had updated it last summer, about 6 months ago, so it was fairly fresh. This time around I decided to make it more organized with a few headings, adding a couple of hyperlinks and tweaking the copy that was already there.
To be honest, it was refreshing and a friendly reminder. This task reminded me who I was. Where I came from and what I want this blog to be for readers. Something I lose track of once in a while.
It can be difficult to talk about yourself. At times I find it easy, but then I end up thinking I am just bragging about what I’ve done with my life and why people should listen to me. As a writer, musician and person that creates visual imagery, that thought process is a constant battle. I make things that are naturally made to be read, heard and seen. To share it with others I need their attention. To get their attention I kind of need some credibility.
So naturally that’s my battle with my about page, but I feel like I found a good balance tonight.
You can see the new about page here.
