Over the past few months I have been diving into Adobe After Effects more than I ever have in my entire professional career as a video specialist. I’ve been doing video seriously for about 3 years now and the two past years have been in a corporate environment. I mainly used Adobe After Effects for lower thirds and video enhancement. I never really got into doing fully graphic based sequences.
I usually just deal with real people and places, but now I don’t feel like I am limited by this world to tell a story. I can create my own stories. I can even enhance the ones that already exist. After Effects is such an amazing tool for storytellers. It truly is a powerful piece of software.
This past week I have been diving into Adobe Illustrator a lot more as well and my eyes have been opening wider than ever. My creativity, motivation and skills in After Effects now feel to be “where I have always hoped to be.” I am finally making little animations I’ve been craving to make for some time. I knew I had the good taste, just not the good skills. It seems that barrier has been destroyed.
It’s almost like night and day. Which is why I decided to make this GIF below. Truly inspired by how I feel with my progress lately. Sometimes all that running starts to feel like jumping and that is a cool feeling.
I plan on doing a lot more little animations like this to force myself to keep in creating things I think are awesome. That’s because well… they are mega fun! Short and sweet projects to create cumulative results in my skills and critical thinking.

Dude, this is fantastic to see. I’m loving the little gif too. Pastel colours have an air of Google’s approach to design of late about them! What would you recommend as a starting point for learning After Effects? :)

Thanks man!
Mt. Mograph on youtube is decent, but has a sporadic teaching style.
Skillshare has some great lessons with fundamentals.
