I am proud and happy to share my friend’s band, The alt Default, and their submission for the NPR Tiny Desk Contest. My friend Nathan, the male singer of the group, always surprises me with his new songs and collaborations. If you could support him and his group by sharing this video and spread the good word about The alt Default, it would be greatly appreciated!
The alt Default lineup:
- Nathaniel Wolkstein (songwriter)-vocals and ukulele
- Hannah “whistle me a tune” Nicholas-vocals and associate principal viola
- David “slappa’ da bass” Connor-string bass
- Michael “Captain McCartney” McCarthy-violin
- Yuping “lub lub lub lub lub lub” Zhou-violin
- Caroline “care-o-lyn” Gilbert-principal viola
- Hilary “hiLarry” Glen-cello
- Dan “cool cat” Morris-shaker
Audio recording- Brandon “engineer Extraordinaire” Keith.
The title of the song, “Love loves to love Love” was inspired by a line in a novel by James Joyce called Ulysses.
This photo below is from a cabin trip last year. I took the photo slightly out of focus, but it truly captures Nathan’s warm and welcoming personality. I hope to see him again this summer since he now lives in Miami.
On a side note, I have been collaborating with Nathan on a few of my own songs that I am planning to release around March. Nathan is an extremely talented violinist and I am honored that he is so willing to write music with me. More details on that another time!
