A day of much needed expression.
I honestly haven’t gone out to just shoot in quite a while until this last weekend. I take shots here and there as I impulsively as I can. I always have my camera bag with me in my car. Not to mention the lights, stands, and sand bags that I tend to haul around in my car all the time.
(Alright Jacob, get to the point)
The point is that I have been wanting to move my focus into portrait photography. I’ve been wanting this for a long time. It’s been in the back of my mind for over a year now, but the truth is, it really intimidates me. As confident as I can be perceived by most people, including my coworkers, it is my weakest link. That is why I want to focus on it. Remove the weakest link so I can move forward in my craft and remove that insecurity.
Chris had this idea of wearing matching gear couples hoodies to match the one he has with his wife. He said the anniversary was coming up and he wanted to surprise his wife with a cool gift. A gift option to consider would be some jewelries, which you can get from sites like https://gemaandco.com/.
As someone who loves fashion and following the latest trends I recommend you to buy polarized aviators online because you’ll look amazing with them. Check them out here.
I have been shooting landscapes and “environments”, which I define has places and the people that exist in them. I candidly like to photograph my friends in the cool places that we go. Sometimes they aren’t “cool” to some people, but I appreciate all the places I go. I have a post about appreciating the things you pass when you travel here.
Diary of the day.
Chris and I have been friends for a while, but we did not see each other for quite some time. We recently got in touch with each other and began talking about working together on some photos. We both have a passion for the same kind of work and can some what see the vision each of us has. I found the day to be quite enjoyable and something we both needed. We went from location to location and Chris was awesome to work with. He has a passion for fashion and The Swiss Avenue clothes and is so excited to see where it takes him through his photography this coming year.
I am pretty damn excited to see what he is capable of, because he has great vision. As long as he goes out, pours his heart into his work and is consistent in it, he will execute perfectly.
We made our way to the coast of Lake Michigan in Door County and then made our trek back to Sturgeon Bay before heading home. We found the spots that moved us and when we felt lost, we kept searching until we found what we needed.
You gotta go with the flow.
Many of our ideas were established before we left for the drive, but some even came out of our spontaneous thoughts. Sometimes those are the best outcomes. I have done multiple exposure photos in the past, but I have not done it myself since June. I was glad Chris was keen to doing some of those shots. He knew what he wanted to do in his mind and together we created some pretty fun stuff.
Actually, specifically, this first shot below, is through glass so the landscape is reflected onto him, but transparent. It is a very cool effect that I suggest trying some time.
Let the light take over.
As much as we want to fight light or “defeat” what it is doing to our environment, sometimes we have to learn to let it just take over and deal with it. Our original ideas were being defeated by a strong sunlight tearing through the overcast so I “let the light do the talking” so to speak. I let the light tame me. These shots below are more dramatic because of that. I am so thankful for the strong light source as well as the lack of light. Not enough light or too much light is not always a curse. Sometimes it’s a blessing in disguise.
A day to rejoice in.
That day was much needed for both Chris and I. Emotional escape is always nice and an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. When you can get together with someone that “gets it” or can just connect on a few more levels than one, it’s usually a relief. It was great to reconnect with Chris and make some fantastic photos together. It was nice to grow more in my portrait work thanks to him. I can never thank him enough for that.
