If we don’t consistently take care of things, they will eventually fall apart…
No matter what we have there are responsibilities we must uphold. To understand the true depth of that, we must understand the true value things have. That includes things we own, organizations we take part in, people we care about and even ourselves. If we just put priorities to the side and think they will stay the same forever they will usually begin to rust.
We need to work hard to preserve the things we build. There is no way around that.
We may not have built that nice car or that awesome camera, but we did build the opportunity to buy it. We also built the relationships we have with our friends, our spouses, our colleagues. We can’t just expect to gain the trust of others and expect them to keep trusting you if you decide to let yourself go. They will see you have given up. They don’t want to carry your mistakes and burdens for very long. No one wants to be a part of a rusty machine.
All the parts of your life are mechanically connected. One thing will push another piece into place and be set in motion. The parts move each other to create a product. Those products create emotions and they are ever changing. When your machine gets rusty, dry and falls apart you will become stressed and unhappy.
You should to try take care of things before they have the chance to go bad.
You can’t stop every instance, but try to keep your motor running nice and clean.
