Friends, family, exercise, hobbies, a local group, a church, faith, etc… all that stuff. That’s a support system. It’s complex and obvious in it’s own way.
The hard part is that some people haven’t discovered a system that works for them. Perhaps they did at one time, but maybe it was flawed, a false sense of support or just temporary. Friends and family can be removed from our life. The support of a human being is a very unique and special connection. It is nearly unexplainable at times how someone can make us feel better when we need it most.
The variables involved with human beings and connections is very complex and very much outside of our control, but investing in people that we know will invest in us can change every aspect of our life. Try to find people you trust, people that care and people that want you to be better than you currently are. Progress is key in relationships. Relationships can’t just keep giving to you, you have to give back to them too. So don’t just think that everyone will look out for you without you investing in them as well.
What about the rest of the support system?
Beyond human relationships having activities that relieves stress and distract you from it are just as important. Why? Because you won’t always have someone around to hold our hand. You shouldn’t have people holding your hand. You need to learn to deal with being uncomfortable on your own.
