I’m a little late on posting this tonight, but I recently got done with a wonderfully long chat with friends from Australia about where we want to go with our videos that we want to create. We found that inspiration and storytelling is something we all love and most of all, believe in. We want to remember to stay true to our passions. We all love photography, but most of all we love the people that make photography what it is. It’s not the camera that takes the pictures, we do. There is so much to be told through a photograph and there is much to be revealed about the person that takes them, especially the ones that move us the most.
I have to reference Ansel Adams in this post because it rings so true, not only in photography, but all forms of creativity, even with Neil, who is a metal fabricator.
No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.
–Ansel Adams
I remember seeing this video over a year ago. It is one of my favorite stories ever told online. Not really sure the most powerful reason, but there are many that ring true to me. By nature I have found myself to be a storyteller when it comes to my video work and for the most part my photography as well. There is something special about when a person is willing to be open and honest with you. They become vulnerable and trust you. That is such a valuable thing and I feel like its become something that is lost and rare, but maybe it always has. I am only 24 years old, I haven’t been doing what I do long enough to know that answer nor have I lived long enough to experience those situations. In a world that seems to be full of lies and deceit, we can always seem to find the good within others and the stories they have to tell and I dream to chase those stories for the rest of my life.
It is guys like Neil that make me feel inspired and remind me how human we all really are. Times change and choices have to be made. No matter what we do life goes on, we adapt to what happens and learn from it. I have always been attracted to handmade things and the people that make them. There is something significant about a hand made product. It just screams quality for some reason. I have always aspired to learn a new craft and build things of my own. Its almost like a form of therapy that holds such great reward.
