It’s funny how many videos you see on the internet and add to your favorites or “likes” list. As I have been doing these Super Saturday Short posts, I have been going through my video accounts online to rediscover videos I once loved, but somehow had forgotten. That fact in itself really speaks tremendously of how much the internet provides us, inspires us, teaches us and amazes us, but how easily we can forget all of those things within a span of even a few months. It is when we force ourselves to retrace our steps and slow down in our fast paced world that we begin to appreciate the past and most importantly the present, which brings me to this fifth installment of my series.
In this video short, Nowhere Near Here, a new world is created in our very own. Separate, but the same. The creativity of others is truly amazing and somehow we all keep on creating more things despite the thought that there may be nothing left to create. We fear limitations of color theory, music theory, and even common knowledge. It’s when we don’t concentrate on the rules and concentrate on what we see in our heads that we can really break down barriers of our world to make something surreal completely real.
Have you ever had an idea in your head, but felt creatively limited by rules that you follow or feel cannot be broken?
Please just don’t go breaking any laws now. ;)

Here is a description of the video and the process in which they created it!
If life is a catwalk, run like a dog.
‘Nowhere Near Here’ is a stop motion animation that uses a combination of light with stencils and long exposure photography to tell the story of a dog running around the city at night, doing whatever a dog does. The animation was first exhibited at the The Herbert, in Coventry, on the 7th October 2010.
With well over 300 hours in the making, more than 200 stencils involved and too many cold nights spent outside on my knees getting the shots, I am very happy (and relieved) to finally share this with you. Through the course of shooting ‘Nowhere Near Here’, I have dealt with curious drunks, a dog almost peeing on the camera (the irony is not lost on me, haha), the endlessly suspicious police and even someone nearly running off with a tripod.
This is street art, this is life and thank you for watching.
…for those of you that may be interested in prints, a selection of film stills from ‘Nowhere Near Here’ are currently available at pahnl.co.uk/store.php

The video was a lot of fun, and the song is fabulous. I’d never heard of Ryksopp (aka RYXP) before, but now I’ve got a new musical interest. Thanks again for inspirational stuff!
