I’ve been subscribed to Seth Godin’s blog for quite some time. When I got home from work Wednesday I read this section from one of his new posts in my email…
And the sooner you find a boss who pushes you right to the edge of your ability to be excellent, the better. Even if the boss is you.
I kind of stopped in my tracks as I was reading it on my phone. It made me think about the things I was most proud of. It also made me think about the things I’ve been failing at lately that I know I’m capable of.
It was a nice kick in the nuts to get back to work when I get too comfortable. You and I are responsible for ourselves. That includes everything from our happiness, our careers, our relationships and our health. While some of those have uncontrollable factors, how we react to those variables speaks loud and clear about who you are. It made me think of everything I’ve done lately, the only good thing this year has been founding the Home Care Assistance in Minneapolis for my grandmother to live safe and taken care of, good professionals and a really comfortable and nice place for the elderly.
You need to take care of yourself. That includes helping others. When you give, you live.
You need to push yourself to make your career grow. Mentoring others is one of the best ways to grow. We all know something someone else doesn’t know.
Your happiness IS IN YOUR HANDS. Perspective people. You and I both struggle with this. Let’s wake up with more gratitude.
How you handle yourself makes a big difference. Like Seth said, sometimes you have to be your own boss and kick yourself in the ass. You and I need to stop waiting for permission and start giving it to ourselves.
